I don’t have a GI, can I still do a trial?2023-09-26T21:54:29-04:00

A gi is not required to participate in the free trial.

If you do not have a gi, it may be more digestible for you to jump into a no gi class to start. However, please feel free to join a gi class as well.

If you wish to participate in gi classes in the future, we can help you find the right one for you when you join.

*We ask that you not to wear overly loose shirts, shorts with zippers, or shorts with pockets to keep from training partners fingers and toes getting caught.

Does the free trial require a credit card or deposit?2023-09-26T21:53:34-04:00

No.

The free trial is obligation free.

Are memberships on a contract?2023-09-26T21:50:43-04:00

Memberships are contract-free/month-to-month and can be cancelled or paused at any time.

Is there an additional charge for stripes, gradings and belt promotions?2023-09-26T21:56:23-04:00

No.

Grading and promotion is purely merit based. Our quality standards are high. The criteria is based on the evolving library of BJJ techniques.

When you receive a belt promotion from Burlington BJJ you’ll know that you received the promotion based on a quality standard that’s well above average.

Is competition mandatory to be considered for grading/promotion?2023-09-26T21:54:59-04:00

No.

Most of our members are not competitors.

Some choose never to compete and still achieve a high level of competence. Some join with no intention to compete but later change their mind when they gain experience. Very few join with the intention to compete from the beginning. The majority of Burlington BJJ students don’t compete but we’ve also produced world champions. We’re well versed to accommodate both.

I am a complete beginner. Can I train at Burlington BJJ?2023-09-26T21:53:55-04:00

Yes.

Finding a gym where you feel comfortable as a beginner can be challenging. Our beginners classes are tailored to the absolute fundamentals of BJJ. We also make sure to pair beginners with more experienced practitioners as a way of  walking them through the fine details of every instruction. We offer a 7-day free trial and 6 days of beginner classes per week.

Do I need to wear a Burlington BJJ branded gi?2023-09-26T21:46:19-04:00

No.

In fact, different team patches and different Gi colors are accepted. It is preferred that the Gi is IBJJF legal. If you don’t have one, we can help you find the right one when you join. Same applies for No-Gi uniforms. We ask that No-Gi uniforms do not include loose shirts, shorts with zippers, or shorts with pockets to keep training partners safe.
